Kiev is the perfect destination for a city break: a city with a rich history that is full of art museums, old buildings, parks and traditional markets. In restaurants run by the same families for generations, you can try typical dishes such as borsch, soup made of beetroot, herbs and lard, and holubtsy, rolled-up cabbage leaves stuffed with rice, buckwheat or meat and seasoned with tomato sauce. Sites worth visiting include the impressive Kyiv Pechersk Lavra Byzantine monastery, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with its maze of tunnels, the Byzantine Saint Sofia’s Cathedral, in which you can admire perfectly preserved medieval frescoes, and the artistic Andriyivskyy Descent, where you can still feel the atmosphere of old Kiev..
